The rule of thumb for sizing a chimney liner is that you never want it to be smaller than the appliance exhaust hole and you don t want the liner to be three times the area of the exhaust hole of the appliance. Whenever possible do not exceed 10 feet of flue pipe length. To be safe we recommend a 10 1 ratio for chimneys less than or equal to 25 feet in height and a 12 1 ratio for chimneys greater than 25 feet in height.
